Tips for creating Flawless Skin

The Importance of Moisturizing

Always moisturize! Look for a light weight moisturizer to apply a few minutes before you begin your makeup routine. Apply a sheer layer immediately after washing your face and allow enough time for the majority of it to be absorbed into your skin. If you don’t mind the extra step, apply a sheer layer of primer right after. It can really make quite the difference in your makeup giving a much smoother looking skin, especially for more textured skin.

Choosing the Right Foundation

First and most importantly, make sure you are using the correct foundation for your skin type. Not all foundations will have the same pay off for every skin type. If you are more of a dry skin type, choose a foundation in a cream or liquid formula and look for finishes that give a satin or natural finish. These foundations will give dry skin more of a healthy supple glow.

If you have oily skin, opt for foundations with more of a matte or natural matte finish. Powder foundations such as MAC’s Studio Fix Foundation are great for everyday coverage. Don’t shy away from liquid foundations, just be sure the one you chose gives a matte finish.

And if your skin is normal or in between, have fun with your foundation and make your skin as fun to dress up as your eye makeup! Skin is just as important in the creation of a look, as any other feature and understanding how to create different looks will make the experience even more fun!

Also, understanding a foundations’ coverage capabilities is essential! Don’t assume more product equals more coverage. Some foundations are not meant to offer full coverage and applying too much will only give you a not so desirable look. If you like a lot of coverage look for a buildable medium to full coverage foundation and always start with a sheer layer. Apply more only where you need it and use a technique where you simply “pat’ the product with either a stiffer brush, sponge or your finger.

Application Tools

Choosing the right tools! Whether you have a full line of professional makeup brushes, or you use your fingers to apply your makeup, I challenge you to try something different. You will be amazed; to see the different finish and coverage you get simply by the different tool you use to apply. One of my favorite brushes to apply my liquid foundation, is a blush brush. Regardless of which tool suits you, be sure to keep it clean. Dirty brushes, sponges or fingers may cause breakouts!
